What Is New on the 2027 GMC Sierra 1500?
2027 GMC Sierra 1500 – Quick Market Intelligence
This is a full redesign, not a facelift. GMC gave the Sierra a more upright body, a more vertical grille, new 7-shaped headlamps and taillamps with a welcome animation, a redesigned cabin on every trim, new engines, and GM’s new native infotainment system with Google built-in. Every trim also gets a larger standard safety suite.
Design and Bed
Available illuminated GMC signature lighting and quad exhaust outlets set the look apart from the current truck. The available MultiPro Tailgate gains four more tie-downs and an integrated ruler, and GMC says the bed has 16 standard tie-downs, which it calls the most in the class.
Configurations at Launch
The Crew Cab arrives first. GMC says Regular Cab, Double Cab and other configurations “will be announced as production expands,” so if you want a smaller cab, expect to wait longer.

Which Trim Makes the Most Sense?
On paper, Elevation is the value pick for most buyers: it adds the MultiPro Tailgate, the articulating screen and the new console for about $8,700 over the Pro, and it can be optioned with the V8, the diesel and Super Cruise. The AT4 is the first trim with the V8 and Super Cruise as standard. The Denali Ultimate is the only Sierra with the 6.6L V8 as standard. 2027 Sierra 1500 Engines and Towing
Every engine pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Both new V8s use a sixth-generation small block design with direct and port fuel injection.

Towing
GMC quotes up to 13,500 pounds of maximum trailering with the 5.7L V8 when properly equipped. Towing varies a lot by cab, bed, axle ratio and package, so check the exact rating for the truck you are buying. Super Cruise now works while towing, and GMC adds an industry-first available Trailer Brake Gain Assistant.
Fuel Economy
The EPA has not published fuel economy for the 2027 Sierra yet. The only official efficiency figure is GM’s estimate of more than 900 miles of highway range for the diesel with the available 34-gallon tank. We will update this guide when EPA numbers are released.
Interior, Screens and Technology
Every trim gets a 16.3-inch center screen and a 12.2-inch driver display. Elevation and Denali Ultimate get an articulating version of the center screen with hidden storage behind it. An 11.5-inch front passenger screen is standard on the AT4X and Denali Ultimate, and the Denali Ultimate adds a 15-inch head-up display and an 8.5-inch rear camera mirror, for more than 60 inches of combined displays.
The new software has Google built-in with Gemini, plus Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. GMC lists up to 19 camera views, including underbody cameras with washers, a transparent trailer view and a cabin view. Available extras include 5G connectivity, dual MagSafe wireless charging and HDMI input.
Materials step up too: real wood on several trims, forged wood on the Denali Ultimate and carbon fiber on the AT4X. The new MultiPro center console includes a work surface, and GMC claims best-in-class standard front head and leg room for the Crew Cab.
Super Cruise and Safety
Super Cruise hands-free driver assistance, now with trailering capability and three years of OnStar One, is standard on the AT4, AT4X, Denali and Denali Ultimate and available on Elevation. GMC says it works on more than 600,000 miles of compatible roads.
The standard safety suite now includes Intersection Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Side Bicyclist Alert, Reverse Automatic Braking, adaptive cruise control and front and rear park assist. Crash test ratings from NHTSA and IIHS are not available yet for the new generation.
2027 Sierra 1500 Release Date
GMC’s September 22, 2026 announcement says the first 2027 Sierra 1500 models “are expected to arrive at GMC dealerships before the end of the 2026 calendar year.” Crew Cab trucks come first. GMC captions note that the vehicles shown are preproduction models, so final details may change.
2027 Sierra 1500 vs 2026 Sierra 1500: Should You Wait?
- Wait for the 2027 if you want the new V8s, Super Cruise with trailering, the larger standard screens or the new safety features.
- Consider a 2026 if you need a Regular Cab or Double Cab soon, or if dealers are discounting outgoing trucks. The new truck’s configurations will roll out over time.
- Compare prices carefully. GMC’s official prices are for the 4WD Crew Cab, so compare the same configuration when you shop.
