The 2027 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate costs $11,100 more than the Denali ($87,895 vs $76,795, both including $2,795 destination). For that money you get the 481 hp 6.6L V8 as standard instead of the 402 hp 5.7L, massaging 14-way front seats, a 16-speaker Bose system with head-restraint speakers, a standard 11.5-inch passenger screen, underbody cameras, 22-inch wheels and power steps. If you would add the 6.6L and the Technology Package to a Denali anyway, the Ultimate is the better value. If you tow heavy or mainly want Super Cruise and the big screens, the regular Denali already has them.
Figures taken from GMC’s official 2027 Sierra 1500 announcements of June 25 and September 22, 2026, and checked against EPA listings. See our sourcing policy.
GMC released full pricing and specifications for the next-generation 2027 Sierra 1500 on September 22, 2026. The Denali and Denali Ultimate sit at the top of the six-trim lineup, and they share more than the price gap suggests. This comparison uses only GMC’s official figures to show what the extra money buys, what it does not, and which truck fits which buyer.

What Is the Difference Between the 2027 Sierra Denali and Denali Ultimate?
2027 Sierra Denali vs Denali Ultimate – Quick Market Intelligence
The Denali Ultimate takes a well-equipped Denali, swaps in the bigger 6.6L V8, and makes standard most of the comfort and tech that is optional or not listed on the Denali. The biggest upgrades are the engine, the massaging seats, the 16-speaker Bose Premium Series audio, the passenger screen, the underbody cameras and the exterior and interior trim. Both trucks come standard with Super Cruise with trailering, the 16.3-inch center screen, the 12.2-inch driver display, a head-up display, a panoramic sunroof and the new MultiPro center console.
How Much Do the 2027 Sierra Denali and Denali Ultimate Cost?
These are GMC’s official starting prices for the 2027 Sierra 1500, including the $2,795 destination charge. GMC notes that prices for other cab, box, drivetrain and package combinations will vary.
| Trim | Starting MSRP | Standard engine |
|---|---|---|
| Denali | $76,795 | 5.7L V8, 402 hp |
| Denali Ultimate | $87,895 | 6.6L V8, 481 hp |
| Difference | $11,100 | +79 hp, +73 lb-ft |
The $11,100 gap is our calculation from GMC’s two published prices. GMC has not published option or package prices yet, including the Denali Technology Package or the cost of the 6.6L V8 on a Denali. That matters, because the true cost of the upgrade depends on how much of the Ultimate’s equipment you would add to a Denali. Once GMC publishes order guide pricing, you can build both trucks to the same spec and compare.
For context, the Denali Ultimate is the most expensive 2027 Sierra 1500. It starts $2,400 above the $85,495 AT4X, while the Denali starts $3,300 above the $73,495 AT4.

Which Engines Do the Denali and Denali Ultimate Get?
Every 2027 Sierra 1500 engine uses a 10-speed automatic. Neither Denali trim offers the 2.7L TurboMax, based on GMC’s trim lists.
| Engine | Output | Denali | Denali Ultimate |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5.7L V8 (6th-gen Small Block) | 402 hp / 428 lb-ft | Standard | Not offered |
| 6.6L V8 (6th-gen Small Block) | 481 hp / 501 lb-ft | Available | Standard |
| 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel | 305 hp / 495 lb-ft | Available | Available |
| 34-gallon fuel tank (approx.) | n/a | Available | Standard |
GMC calls the new 6.6L the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class, the largest-displacement V8 in its class and GMC’s most powerful half-ton V8 ever. Both new V8s get higher compression, larger throttle bodies and a combination of direct and port fuel injection. GMC lists a 3.23 axle ratio with the 5.7L, 6.6L and diesel.
Because the 6.6L is available on the regular Denali, the engine alone is not a reason to buy the Ultimate. The diesel is offered on both trims. With the 34-gallon tank, GM estimates the Duramax can cover more than 900 miles of highway driving on a tank. That tank is standard on the Ultimate and available on the Denali.
EPA fuel economy estimates are not available yet. GMC’s release states that official EPA figures have not been published, and fueleconomy.gov had no 2027 Sierra 1500 listing as of September 26, 2026.

Which Tows More, the Denali or the Denali Ultimate?
GMC has not published trim-specific towing or payload ratings for either Denali. Its specifications list maximums by engine and configuration, not by trim, so treat the numbers below as ceilings for each engine rather than promises for a particular Denali.
| Engine (Crew Cab) | Max trailering | Max payload |
|---|---|---|
| 5.7L V8 | Up to 13,500 lb (lineup maximum, properly equipped) | Up to 1,920 lb |
| 3.0L Duramax diesel, 4WD | Up to 12,100 lb (with Max Trailering) | Up to 1,790 lb |
| 6.6L V8, 4WD | Up to 9,400 lb | Up to 1,450 lb |
This is the most important trade-off in the comparison. On GMC’s spec sheet, the 6.6L V8, which is the Ultimate’s standard engine, carries the lowest maximum trailer rating of the three Denali-family engines, at 9,400 pounds for a 4WD Crew Cab. The 5.7L tops the Sierra 1500 lineup at up to 13,500 pounds when properly equipped. GMC has not said whether the Max Trailering package can be ordered on either Denali trim, so no Denali-specific figure exists yet.
If you pull a heavy camper or a large boat, the Denali with the 5.7L, or either truck with the diesel, is likely the better starting point. Confirm the exact rating for the truck you order with the dealer and the trailering label on the door jamb.
How Do the Interiors and Features Compare?
This is where most of the $11,100 goes. The table below shows equipment GMC lists in its official trim lists. “Not listed” means GMC’s release does not mention the feature for that trim, not that it is absent.
| Feature | Denali ($76,795) | Denali Ultimate ($87,895) |
|---|---|---|
| Super Cruise with trailering (3 yrs OnStar One) | Standard | Standard |
| Front seats | 12-way power, heated and ventilated, Denali badging | 14-way power, heated, ventilated and massaging |
| Bose audio | 8-speaker Bose Premium with Richbass woofer | 16-speaker Bose Premium Series with front head-restraint speakers |
| Wood trim | Birch Wood accents | Engineered open-pore forged birch wood |
| 16.3-inch center screen | Standard | Standard, articulating with hidden storage |
| 11.5-inch passenger screen | Available (Technology Package) | Standard |
| 12.2-inch driver display | Standard | Standard |
| Head-up display | Standard | Standard, 15-inch multicolor |
| Rear Camera Mirror | Standard | Standard, 8.5-inch |
| Underbody cameras with wash | Not listed | Standard |
| Wheels | 22-inch available | 22-inch six-spoke diamond-cut aluminum, standard |
| MultiPro Power Steps | Available | Standard |
| Suspension | Denali Premium Suspension, Adaptive Ride Control | Adaptive Ride Control |
| Panoramic sunroof | Standard | Standard |
| MultiPro center console | Standard | Standard |
| Dynamic ambient lighting, dual MagSafe | Standard | Not listed |
| Grille | Signature Denali chrome grille | Shadow header and grille bars, illuminated GMC emblem |

Seats and Audio
The seats and sound system are the most noticeable daily upgrades. The Ultimate adds two more ways of power adjustment and a massage function to the heated and ventilated front seats. Its 16-speaker Bose system doubles the Denali’s speaker count and adds speakers in the front head restraints, which GMC says is a class exclusive.

Screens and Cameras
Counting the passenger display, the head-up display and the other screens, GMC says the Ultimate has more than 60 inches of combined digital displays, which it calls the most in the class. The Denali can add the passenger screen through the Technology Package, whose full contents and price GMC has not detailed. The Ultimate’s standard underbody cameras are part of a camera suite that offers up to 19 views across the lineup, including Hitch View, a transparent trailer view and the new Cabin Glance. Both trucks run GM’s new native infotainment system with Google built-in and Gemini, alongside Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Materials and Colors
The Ultimate uses open-pore forged birch wood and Ultimate-exclusive interior badging, including the Mt. Denali coordinates shown in GMC’s photos. GMC lists three Denali interior colorways: After Dark / Sheer with Sapphire Blue accents, Terra Summit with Bright White accents, and Twilight Harbor with Bright White accents. It has shown the Ultimate in Stealth Black with Bright White accents but has not published a full Ultimate color list. Neither release names the leather grade for either trim.
Does Either Trim Have Air Suspension?
GMC does not list air suspension for either truck. Its specifications show Adaptive Ride Control front and rear on both the Denali and Denali Ultimate, and the Denali’s trim list also mentions Denali Premium Suspension. Neither release mentions air ride or magnetic dampers, so do not assume the Ultimate rides on air until GMC says so.
Who Should Buy the Denali, and Who Should Buy the Ultimate?
Buy the 2027 Sierra Denali if:
- You tow heavy. The 5.7L V8 has the highest maximum rating in the lineup, and the Denali is the only one of the two that offers it.
- You want Super Cruise with trailering, the 16.3-inch screen, the head-up display and the panoramic roof. The Denali has all of them as standard.
- You want to spend closer to $77,000 and add only the options you care about.
- You like the chrome grille look, dynamic ambient lighting and dual MagSafe charging, which GMC lists for the Denali.
Buy the 2027 Sierra Denali Ultimate if:
- You were going to order a Denali with the 6.6L V8 and the Technology Package anyway. Once those are added, the real price gap may shrink well below $11,100, though GMC has not published those option prices yet.
- You spend long days in the cab and value massaging seats and the 16-speaker Bose system.
- You want underbody cameras, power steps and 22-inch wheels without building a long option list.
- Your trailer stays under the 6.6L’s 9,400-pound maximum, or you plan to choose the diesel.

Is the $11,100 Upgrade Worth It?
For most buyers, the answer depends on the option sheet. The Denali is already a fully loaded luxury truck, with Super Cruise, big screens and a strong 5.7L V8, and it is the better tow vehicle on paper. The Ultimate is worth the money if you would otherwise pay for the 6.6L, the Technology Package and power steps on a Denali, and if massaging seats and the upgraded Bose system matter to you. Wait for GMC’s option pricing, build both trucks to the same spec, and compare the final numbers before you decide.
When Can You Buy a 2027 Sierra Denali or Denali Ultimate?
GMC says the first 2027 Sierra 1500 trucks are expected at dealers before the end of the 2026 calendar year. Crew Cab configurations come first, and GMC says Regular Cab and Double Cab availability “will be announced as production expands.” GMC’s photos show preproduction models, so final details may change.
