Hyundai’s best-selling SUV is getting its biggest change in years. Earlier coverage of the next Tucson relied on spy photos and estimates; Hyundai has now published the details, including a full specification table. This guide covers the redesign and the US-market facts, and it separates what is confirmed for 2027 from what is expected but not yet announced. Where a 2027 figure does not exist yet, the current 2026 figure is shown and labeled.
The Tucson matters to Hyundai. According to Hyundai’s reveal release, more than 11.1 million Tucsons have been sold worldwide since 2004 (including China-only models), the US accounts for about 20% of that total, and hybrids made up 31% of US Tucson sales in 2025. Hyundai’s September 2026 sales report shows Tucson sales up 32% that month and up 23% in the third quarter.

What engines and hybrid system does the 2027 Tucson use?
Hyundai’s specification table lists separate output figures for the US. The hybrid uses a two-motor layout (a 13 kW P1 motor and a 47.7 kW P2 motor) with a 1.49 kWh, 270-volt battery and a six-speed automatic. For the US it is rated at 233 hp and 279.9 lb-ft. The gasoline model is listed at 184 hp for the US, from the 1.6-liter turbo with an eight-speed automatic. Hyundai also lists a 2.0-liter non-turbo engine, but without a US output figure.
| Powertrain | 2026 Tucson (current) | 2027 Tucson (Hyundai spec / target) |
|---|---|---|
| Gasoline | 2.5L, 187 hp, 178 lb-ft | 1.6L turbo, 184 hp (US) |

| Hybrid towing | 2,000 lbs (implied by Hyundai’s +1,000 lb figure) | 3,000 lbs (North America) |
Current-model figures come from Hyundai’s 2026 Tucson specifications and FuelEconomy.gov. Hyundai’s 2027 mpg numbers are targets for North America: 42 mpg for the 2WD hybrid on 17-inch wheels, 40 mpg for the 2WD hybrid on other wheels and for the AWD hybrid on 17-inch wheels, 38 mpg for other AWD hybrids, and 28 mpg (2WD) or 26 mpg (AWD) for the gas model. Wait for EPA ratings before comparing running costs.
Two hybrid-only features are new. The E-Traction system adjusts torque to reduce wheel slip in corners, and HEV Stay Mode lets the climate control, audio and charging ports run with the engine off while parked.

What is Pleos Connect, and what changes inside?
According to Hyundai Motor America’s Pleos Connect release, the 2027 Tucson is the first Hyundai sold in the US with Pleos Connect. It runs on Android Automotive OS and comes with a 17-inch or 12.9-inch center screen (both 2560 x 1440 pixels) plus a standard 9.9-inch “Slim Information Display” above the steering column. Other confirmed details:
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remain available.
- The Gleo AI voice assistant responds to “Hey Gleo” or “Hey Hyundai.”
- Physical buttons stay for key functions, including HVAC and audio.
- Over-the-air updates, an app store called Pleos App Market, Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 6.
The cabin moves the shifter to a column-mounted stalk and uses a two-layer dashboard with an open storage tray. Hyundai lists 1,036 mm (40.8 in) of front headroom and 1,064 mm (41.9 in) of rear legroom for the long-wheelbase model sold in North America. Dual 15W wireless charging pads are available. Some features in the global release, such as the Micro Pixel headlights and the massaging seat, are marked as short-wheelbase only and not for North America.
What do the Tucson XRT and XRT PRO add?
The XRT gets extra body cladding, skid-plate styling and XRT seat trim. The XRT PRO adds all-wheel drive, all-terrain tires, front recovery hooks and 210 mm of ground clearance, 30 mm more than the standard model. It also brings Hyundai’s first Smart Terrain Assist, which Hyundai lists as North America-only on the XRT PRO. The system rates terrain difficulty with a green, orange or red “stuck score,” and it works with Target Speed Control, a low-speed off-road cruise function.
Hyundai says a sport-inspired version will debut at the Paris Motor Show on October 12, 2026. It has not said whether that model will be sold in the US.

When is the 2027 Tucson release date, and what will it cost?
Confirmed: Hyundai says the new Tucson launches in Korea later in 2026 and in North America, Europe and other markets in 2027.
Not yet announced: a US on-sale month, trim names and pricing. Hyundai usually publishes US pricing in a separate release closer to launch. Until then, the 2026 model is the price reference. Per Hyundai’s June 2026 release, the 2026 Tucson Hybrid SE FWD is $30,950 and the SEL FWD is $32,400 (MSRP, excluding $1,600 freight), and the Hybrid Night AWD is $44,175 including freight. A full redesign often brings a price increase, but this guide will not guess a number.
Is the Hyundai Tucson safe?
The 2027 model has not been crash-tested yet. Hyundai’s stated targets are a 5-star NHTSA rating and an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. Its release lists hot-stamped steel in key structures, reinforced 2.0 mm center pillars, an available front-center airbag, driver drowsiness monitoring, Child Presence Detection, Intelligent Speed Limit Assist and Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control.
For the current model, NHTSA rates the 2026 Tucson (gas FWD and AWD, and Hybrid AWD) at 5 stars overall, with 4 stars for rollover. The IIHS lists the 2026 Tucson as a Top Safety Pick+, with Good ratings in the small overlap, updated moderate overlap and updated side tests. Headlights are Good on the Limited and Acceptable on other trims, and it rates Poor for whiplash prevention.
