NextCarReview was founded in August 2024 by Morgan Reyes, Founder & Editor-in-Chief, and is run from New York. At NextCarReview, our job is to help people make a large purchase well. Buying a vehicle is a significant financial commitment, and the reviews here are built to guide that decision using verified, citable data rather than opinion.
Every number we publish traces back to a named source, and the article tells you which one. If we cannot attribute a figure, we do not print it.
A note on “testing” language: NextCarReview is a research and editorial publication, not a vehicle testing facility. We do not maintain a fleet of test cars, a test track, or in-house instrumentation. Where an article uses words like “tested,” “driven,” or reports a real-world figure, that data is sourced from a named manufacturer, government agency (EPA, NHTSA, IIHS), or an independent publication that conducted the test, and is cited at the point it is used. If you see wording anywhere on this site that implies NextCarReview itself performed hands-on testing without a named external source, please tell us using the contact link below and we will correct it.
Our Sourcing Standard
These are the sources behind the data on this site:
- Fuel Economy: EPA FuelEconomy.gov ratings. Where we quote a real-world figure, it comes from aggregated owner-reported data or from a named independent test, credited to the outlet that ran it.
- Safety: NHTSA crash test ratings and IIHS evaluations, cited to the rating year.
- Recalls: The NHTSA recall database, checked at the time of writing.
- Owner complaints: The NHTSA consumer complaint database. Complaints are reported as unverified owner reports, with counts and the date checked, never as confirmed defects.
- Specifications, Dimensions and Pricing: Manufacturer press materials and configurators.
- Performance: Manufacturer figures, labelled as such, or instrumented results from a named publication.
- Reliability: Published owner surveys and reliability indices, attributed to their source.
1. How Each Review Is Built
Every review on NextCarReview goes through the same process:
- Specification Collection – Specs and pricing gathered from manufacturer press materials and configurators.
- Fuel Economy – EPA figures pulled for every trim discussed.
- Safety and Recall Check – NHTSA and IIHS ratings checked, along with any open recalls.
- Independent Test Review – Published road tests read and cited where they add what a specification sheet cannot.
- Owner Data Review – Owner-reported economy and reliability checked for where real-world results diverge from official numbers.
- Source Check Before Publication – Every figure verified against the source cited for it.
Safety Verification
Safety is our top priority. We cross-reference each vehicle model with trusted official sources, including the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
We report on:
- Crash Test Ratings: Crashworthiness and occupant protection across published crash scenarios.
- Active Safety Recalls: Verifying and alerting readers to any active recalls for the model.
- Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS): We report on the availability and documented functionality of safety features such as lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, using manufacturer specifications and published independent evaluations.
Technical Specification Audit
Accuracy matters in delivering the correct specifications for each vehicle. We verify all technical data, including:
- Engine Performance: Confirming horsepower, torque, acceleration and efficiency ratings against manufacturer-provided data.
- Fuel Economy: Using EPA FuelEconomy.gov ratings, manufacturer data and published third-party test results to report on both city and highway MPG.
- Vehicle Dimensions and Weights: Checking that every published measurement of a vehicle’s size, weight and load capacity is accurate, including cargo space and seating configurations.
- Technology and Features: We document the latest infotainment systems, connectivity features and onboard technology, and summarise how independent reviewers and owners rate them.
Reliability Indexing
Understanding long-term vehicle reliability is essential for a sound investment. We collect data from:
- Owner Feedback: Insights from published owner feedback on forums, consumer reports and reliability surveys.
- Mechanical Issues and Common Problems: Tracking reported mechanical problems such as engine issues, transmission performance or electrical malfunctions to give readers a heads-up on potential future maintenance.
2. Independence and Ethics
At NextCarReview, editorial integrity is fundamental to what we do. We hold ourselves to strict standards so that our reviews and analyses remain unbiased and trustworthy.
Zero Influence
Our reviews are not influenced by any external party. We do not accept monetary incentives or sponsorships from automakers or dealerships for favorable reviews, and we do not accept vehicles, gifts or hospitality in exchange for coverage. Our ratings and assessments are based strictly on published data from the sources listed above.
Ad Transparency
We rely on Google AdSense to fund our operations, but these advertisements are kept separate from our editorial content. No advertiser has any input into what we publish or how a vehicle is rated.
No “Positive” Reviews for Payment: We do not accept payment or gifts in exchange for favorable reviews.
Fact-Checking and Data Verification
Before any article goes live, every figure in it is checked against the source cited for it. This process includes:
- Double-checking technical specs against manufacturer documentation.
- Cross-verifying safety ratings, recalls and reliability data against NHTSA, IIHS and published owner surveys.
- Ensuring every claim is backed by data from a named, citable source.
3. Content Freshness and Update Policy
We update a review when pricing changes, when a new model year arrives, or when a safety recall is issued for a vehicle we cover. The date shown on each article is the date it was last checked, not the date it was first published.
4. Corrections
