Short version: The 2027 Ford F-150 is an official, confirmed update of the current truck, not a redesign. Ford announced it on September 15, 2026: a new standard 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 replaces the 2.7-liter, the 5.0-liter V8 returns to King Ranch and Platinum, BlueCruise gains hands-free towing, and a new F-150 Carhartt starts at $62,660 plus destination. Ford has not yet published EPA ratings or most 2027 trim prices.

Ford’s full-size pickup gets a meaningful update for 2027. Earlier coverage of this truck leaned on leaked dealer order guides; Ford has since published the details itself, so this guide uses Ford’s announcement as the baseline and separates what is confirmed for 2027 from what is still not announced. Where Ford has not released a 2027 number, the current 2026 figure is shown and labeled as such.
The stakes are high for Ford. According to Ford’s 2025 U.S. sales release, F-Series sold 828,832 trucks in 2025, up 8.3%, marking its 49th straight year as America’s best-selling truck and its 44th year as the best-selling vehicle overall. The F-150 Hybrid alone set a record with 84,934 sales.
What’s new for the 2027 Ford F-150?
Ford’s 2027 F-150 announcement (September 15, 2026) lists five main changes:
- New standard engine: a 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 replaces the 2.7-liter EcoBoost.
- V8 returns to the luxury trims: the 5.0-liter V8 is available on King Ranch and Platinum again, for the first time since 2023.
- BlueCruise with Towing: hands-free highway driving now works with a trailer attached.
- Cheaper off-road versions: new entry-level Tremor and Raptor configurations with fewer comfort features but the same off-road hardware.
- Styling and a new edition: new grilles and wheel designs for XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum, plus the new F-150 Carhartt.
Ford’s announcement describes no changes to the cab, bed or frame. This remains the 14th-generation truck that was refreshed for 2024, which matters for shoppers comparing a discounted 2026 against a new 2027.

What engines does the 2027 F-150 have?
The headline change is under the hood of the cheapest trucks. Ford says the new 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 “shares the same core architecture” as the 2.7-liter it replaces and has the same peak capability, but it makes roughly 10% to 11% more torque in the range where everyday driving happens. Ford’s 2027 F-150 technical specifications rate the 3.0-liter at 325 hp and 400 lb-ft, the same peak figures as the outgoing 2.7-liter on Ford’s current F-150 page.
| Engine | Official output | 2027 status |
|---|---|---|
| 3.0L EcoBoost V6 (new) | 325 hp / 400 lb-ft | Confirmed; standard engine |
| 3.5L EcoBoost V6 | 400 hp / 500 lb-ft | Confirmed; up to 13,500 lbs towing |
| 3.5L PowerBoost Full Hybrid V6 | 430 hp / 570 lb-ft | Confirmed; 2.4 kW or 7.2 kW Pro Power Onboard available |
| 5.0L V8 | 400 hp / 410 lb-ft | Confirmed; now offered XL through Platinum |
| 3.5L High-Output EcoBoost (Raptor) | 450 hp / 510 lb-ft | Raptor continues; entry-level version added |
| 5.2L supercharged V8 (Raptor R) | 720 hp / 640 lb-ft | Listed in Ford’s 2027 spec sheet |
The V8 change corrects a common misunderstanding: the 5.0-liter was not removed from King Ranch and Platinum for 2026. Ford’s own wording is that it returns to those trims “for the first time since 2023,” making a V8 available across the lineup from XL to Platinum.

When is the 2027 Ford F-150 release date?
Confirmed: Ford officially revealed the 2027 F-150 on September 15, 2026. On the same day it opened orders for the F-150 Carhartt and said that version will be available in early 2027.
Not yet announced: Ford’s announcement does not give a production start or dealer-arrival date for the rest of the 2027 lineup. Earlier reports based on leaked dealer order guides discussed production timing, but Ford has not confirmed a date, so this guide does not treat it as fact. A Ford dealer can tell you when 2027 order banks open for a specific trim and engine.
How much will the 2027 F-150 cost?
Ford has priced only one 2027 model in its announcement. The F-150 Carhartt is based on the XLT 4×4 SuperCrew and starts at $62,660 MSRP plus destination and delivery; the Carhartt Package itself is $4,195. It adds unique 20-inch wheels, a spray-in Carhartt-branded bedliner, two-tone seat covers, fender vents, dual exhaust and off-road running boards.
The new entry-level Tremor is STX-based and drops some comfort items: it uses manual A/C, does without heated front seats and gets a 6-speaker audio system instead of 8 speakers. The entry-level Raptor deletes the head-up display, fog lamps, 2 kW Pro Power Onboard, the Mobile Office package and the power passenger seat while keeping the off-road hardware. Ford positions both as lower-cost versions, but it has not published their prices in the announcement, and this guide will not guess them.

How much can the 2027 F-150 tow, and what mpg will it get?
Ford’s announcement gives two 2027 capability figures. The base 3.0-liter tows up to 8,400 lbs and carries up to 1,755 lbs of payload when configured as a Regular Cab 6.5-ft 4×2. The 3.5-liter EcoBoost remains the towing leader at 13,500 lbs (SuperCrew 6.5-ft 4×4, properly equipped). Ford’s 2027 spec sheet lists a maximum payload of 2,440 lbs (3.5-liter EcoBoost, 4×2).
EPA ratings for the 2027 truck, including the new 3.0-liter, are not yet announced. The table shows the official 2026 ratings from FuelEconomy.gov for reference only; the 3.0-liter will receive its own rating.
| 2026 F-150 powertrain (EPA) | 2WD city/hwy/combined | 4WD city/hwy/combined |
|---|---|---|
| 2.7L EcoBoost (replaced for 2027) | 19 / 25 / 21 mpg | 18 / 23 / 20 mpg |
| 3.5L EcoBoost | 17 / 25 / 20 mpg | 17 / 23 / 19 mpg |
| 5.0L V8 | 16 / 24 / 19 mpg | 16 / 24 / 19 mpg |
| 3.5L PowerBoost Hybrid | 23 / 25 / 24 mpg | 22 / 24 / 23 mpg |
| Raptor 3.5L High-Output (4WD only) | n/a | 14 / 18 / 16 mpg |
On the 2026 numbers, the PowerBoost Hybrid leads the lineup on fuel economy, with 24 mpg combined in 2WD form.
How does BlueCruise with Towing work?
According to Ford’s BlueCruise with Towing explainer, the system launches on the 2027 F-150 and lets drivers go hands-free on pre-qualified divided highways (Blue Zones) while towing, with eyes required on the road. Ford lists more than 130,000 miles of Blue Zones. Key limits:
- Trailers up to 10,000 lbs when the truck is properly configured with the Tow/Haul package and optional Max Tow axle.
- An accurate trailer profile must be set up before use.
- Maximum speed of 75 mph while towing, compared with 80 mph without a trailer.
- Hands-free lane changes are disabled while towing.
- Available on BlueCruise-equipped XLT, Tremor, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum trucks, at no extra cost for owners with an active BlueCruise plan; a plan or trial is required.

Is the F-150 safe? Current crash-test ratings
Neither NHTSA nor IIHS has published 2027 F-150 results yet. For the 2026 truck, NHTSA gives the F-150 SuperCrew (gas, RWD and 4WD) a 5-star overall rating, with 5 stars for frontal and side crashes and 4 stars for rollover.
The IIHS ratings for the 2026 F-150 crew cab are mixed: Good in the small overlap front and updated side tests, but Poor in the updated moderate overlap front test, and Marginal for LATCH ease of use. Headlights are rated Good or Acceptable depending on trim. The 2026 truck did not earn a Top Safety Pick award. IIHS ratings can change when a model is updated, so check again once 2027 results are posted.
Should you buy a 2026 F-150 or wait for the 2027?
The answer depends on what you plan to order:
- Wait for 2027 if you want a V8 in a King Ranch or Platinum, hands-free towing with BlueCruise, or a lower-cost Tremor or Raptor.
- Consider a 2026 if you want a base or mid-level V6 truck now. The 2026 2.7-liter is a known quantity with official EPA ratings, and Ford says the new 3.0-liter has the same peak capability.
- Hybrid buyers lose little by buying a 2026: the PowerBoost carries into 2027 (Ford lists 570 lb-ft), and Ford announced no hybrid changes.

Frequently Asked Questions
When is the 2027 Ford F-150 release date?
Ford revealed the 2027 F-150 on September 15, 2026, and opened orders for the new F-150 Carhartt that day, with Carhartt availability listed for early 2027. Ford’s announcement does not give a separate dealer-arrival date for the rest of the 2027 lineup, so confirm timing with a Ford dealer.
What engine replaces the 2.7L EcoBoost in the 2027 F-150?
A 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 becomes the standard engine. Ford says it shares the same core architecture and the same peak capability as the 2.7-liter it replaces, with roughly 10% to 11% more torque in the rpm range used in daily driving.
Can you get a V8 in the 2027 F-150 King Ranch or Platinum?
Yes. Ford confirms the 5.0-liter V8 (400 hp, 410 lb-ft) returns to King Ranch and Platinum for the first time since 2023, so a V8 is available from XL through Platinum for 2027.
How much does the 2027 Ford F-150 cost?
The only 2027 price in Ford’s announcement is the F-150 Carhartt: $62,660 MSRP plus destination, with the Carhartt Package itself priced at $4,195. Ford’s announcement does not list 2027 prices for the other trims, so check Ford’s online configurator for current figures.
Does the 2027 F-150 have hands-free towing?
Yes. BlueCruise with Towing debuts on the 2027 F-150 for BlueCruise-equipped trucks from XLT and Tremor to Platinum. It works on pre-qualified divided highways, supports properly configured trailers up to 10,000 lbs, caps speed at 75 mph and disables hands-free lane changes while towing. It needs an active BlueCruise plan or trial.
Is the 2027 F-150 a new generation?
No. It is an update of the current 14th-generation F-150, not a redesign. The changes are a new base engine, wider V8 availability, new grilles and wheels on several trims, BlueCruise with Towing, cheaper Tremor and Raptor versions and the new Carhartt edition.
