Confirmed for 2027: the Super Duty is on Ford’s site with a 420 hp 7.3-liter gas V8 and a 500 hp 6.7-liter High Output diesel (up to 1,200 lb-ft), up to 40,000 lb gooseneck towing and up to 7,900 lb gas payload. New for 2027 are the Carhartt Package (available Fall 2026), Neptune Blue paint, long-bed Tremor configurations and wider factory off-road equipment availability, per Work Truck. Not shown: a full 2027 price list or EPA mpg, because heavy-duty pickups have no FuelEconomy.gov listing. The 2026 figures quoted below are labelled as 2026.
Compiled from Ford newsroom and Ford.com specification pages, EPA data on FuelEconomy.gov and the sources listed below. This page was written from official documents and does not include any driving impressions. Updated October 7, 2026.
The 2027 Ford Super Duty is already listed on Ford’s website, and it is a carryover design with a new Carhartt Package, a new paint color, wider Tremor and off-road availability and some changed engine figures. If you searched for its release date, price, towing and what is new, this page lays out what Ford has published, what it has not, and how the numbers compare with the 2026 truck. More 2027 coverage is on our 2027 new cars hub.
Is the 2027 Ford Super Duty a redesign?
No. Ford has not announced a new generation for 2027, and the headline change in its own material is the first-ever Super Duty Carhartt Package plus a new paint color, Neptune Blue. The truck on sale today is the same F-250, F-350 and F-450 family, in XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch and Platinum trims, with Tremor and FX4 off-road packages. The official numbers for it sit on Ford’s 2027 Super Duty performance page. Everything on this page is taken from Ford’s own pages and from FuelEconomy.gov, and nothing here is a driving impression.
One point matters more than the paint: Ford’s 2027 engine figures differ from the 2026 figures in several places, which the comparison table below sets out. Where Ford has not published a 2027 number, the page says so rather than carrying a 2026 figure forward as if it were new.

What is confirmed for 2027 and what is not?
The table separates facts that Ford has published for the 2027 model year from items that remain unannounced as of October 7, 2026.
| Item | Status | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Carhartt Package (XLT Crew Cab SRW 4×4) | Confirmed for 2027; orders opened May 8; available Fall 2026 | Ford From the Road |
| Neptune Blue paint | Confirmed as new for the 2027 model year | Ford From the Road |
| 7.3L gas V8 | Confirmed: 420 hp and 445 lb-ft | Ford 2027 specs page |
| 6.7L High Output Power Stroke diesel | Confirmed: 500 hp, up to 1,200 lb-ft | Ford 2027 specs page |
| Maximum towing and payload | Confirmed: 40,000 lb (gooseneck), 7,900 lb (gas payload) | Ford 2027 specs page |
| Starting price and destination charge | Not shown on the 2027 pages reviewed | Check Ford Build and Price |
| EPA fuel economy | None; no Super Duty listings on FuelEconomy.gov | FuelEconomy.gov |
| Next-generation Super Duty | Not announced by Ford | No official source |
Nothing about a future redesign should be read into this table. Ford has not said anything on the record about one, so this page does not speculate.
What engines and transmission does the 2027 Super Duty use?
Ford’s 2027 lineup, as summarized by Work Truck, lists two engines. Both V8s pair with a 10-speed automatic, listed as TorqShift-G or TorqShift depending on application.
| Engine (2027) | Horsepower | Torque |
|---|---|---|
| 7.3L naturally aspirated gas V8 | 420 hp @ 5,350 rpm | 445 lb-ft @ 4,250 rpm |
| 6.7L High Output Power Stroke turbo diesel V8 | 500 hp @ 2,600 rpm | Up to 1,200 lb-ft (maximum available) |
Ford also lists a 2 kW Pro Power Onboard generator among the available features on its 2027 page. Work Truck lists a maximum GCWR of 48,000 pounds with required equipment; read the towing guide for the configuration you choose.

2027 vs 2026: what changed?
Ford’s 2026 Super Duty specs page gives a direct baseline. The comparison below uses only figures printed on those two official pages.
| Spec | 2026 Super Duty (official) | 2027 Super Duty (official) |
|---|---|---|
| Gas V8 options | 6.8L: 405 hp, 445 lb-ft; 7.3L: 430 hp, 485 lb-ft | 7.3L: 420 hp, 445 lb-ft (6.8L not shown) |
| Standard 6.7L Power Stroke diesel | 475 hp, 1,050 lb-ft | Not shown on the 2027 pages reviewed |
| 6.7L High Output diesel | 500 hp, 1,200 lb-ft | 500 hp, up to 1,200 lb-ft |
| Max gooseneck towing | 40,000 lb | 40,000 lb |
| Max fifth-wheel towing | 35,000 lb | Not shown on the page excerpt |
| Max conventional towing | 30,000 lb | Not shown on the page excerpt |
| Max payload (gas) | 8,000 lb | 7,900 lb |
| New packages and colors | – | Carhartt Package; Neptune Blue paint |
Read the table with care. Ford lists the 2027 7.3-liter at lower output than the 2026 version, and the 2027 gas payload maximum is 100 pounds below the 2026 maximum. Work Truck, citing Ford’s 2027 product information, lists only the 7.3-liter gas V8 (standard on F-250 and F-350) and the 6.7-liter High Output diesel; confirm with a dealer whether the 6.8-liter or standard diesel can still be ordered.
What is in the Super Duty Carhartt Package?
Ford describes the package in two articles on its From the Road site and newsroom. It is an option for XLT Crew Cab single-rear-wheel 4×4 pickups with 40/console/40 seating, and it is compatible with the XLT Premium Package and the FX4 Off-Road Package. Ford says orders opened May 8 and the package is available in fall 2026.
- Exterior: a unique dark-painted grille, 20-inch machined and painted wheels, LT275/65R20 all-terrain tires, off-road running boards with a textured finish and Carhartt-branded fender vents.
- Bed: a Tough Bed spray-in bedliner with a Carhartt logo.
- Interior: seating surfaces modeled on Carhartt duck canvas with triple-stitched detailing, Carhartt-inspired floor mats and embroidered headrest logos.
- Lighting: LED roof marker and clearance lamps, LED reflector lamps, LED fog lamps and an LED center high-mounted stop lamp.
- Colors: Marsh Gray, Iconic Silver Metallic, Agate Black Metallic, Carbonized Gray Metallic, Oxford White and Neptune Blue.
TFLtruck and CarPro report a $4,195 package price; the Ford articles reviewed do not state one.

How does the Super Duty compare with other heavy-duty pickups?
This page does not rank the Super Duty against the Chevrolet Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD or Ram HD, because the 2027 figures for those trucks are not covered here. If you are cross-shopping, start with our 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD LTZ page for one rival’s published numbers, and compare them against Ford’s figures above line by line: engine output, maximum towing by hitch type, and payload for the specific cab and axle configuration. For the half-ton side of Ford’s lineup, see the 2027 Ford F-150 page.
Capability numbers for heavy-duty trucks depend heavily on cab, bed, axle ratio and engine, so a headline maximum rarely applies to the truck you buy. The 40,000-pound and 7,900-pound maximums, for instance, apply only to specific equipment that Ford ties to footnotes on its site.
Should you buy a 2026 Super Duty or wait for the 2027?
This is analysis from official data only. The 2027 truck is already shown on Ford’s site, so waiting is not really the choice; the choice is between a leftover 2026 and a 2027 built to the current spec sheet.
- Choose a 2026 if you want the 6.8-liter gas V8, the standard 6.7-liter diesel or the 7.3-liter at its 2026 rating of 430 hp and 485 lb-ft, and you can find the exact configuration. The 2026 maximum gas payload of 8,000 lb is also higher on paper.
- Choose a 2027 if you want the Carhartt Package, Neptune Blue paint or the newest model year for resale and warranty start date. The 6.7-liter High Output diesel carries the same published 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft in both years.
- Either way, price the truck with Ford’s Build and Price or a written dealer quote, because no 2027 starting MSRP appears in the sources reviewed.
If towing is the reason for the purchase, read the footnotes for the 40,000-pound figure and confirm the rating for the cab, bed and axle you are ordering. Ratings can change with equipment, and the window sticker or door-jamb label for the specific truck is the final word.

What should you check before ordering a 2027 Super Duty?
- Confirm engine and output on the build sheet, since the 7.3-liter is listed at different figures for 2026 and 2027.
- Ask for the payload and towing ratings for your exact cab, bed and axle ratio, not the maximums.
- Check whether any wanted package, such as Carhartt, requires a specific trim, cab or drivetrain: the Carhartt Package is limited to XLT Crew Cab single-rear-wheel 4×4.
- Look up open recalls for the VIN on the NHTSA recall site before signing.
- Heavy-duty pickups are not rated by the EPA on FuelEconomy.gov, so budget fuel costs from your own usage rather than a label figure.

Frequently Asked Questions
When does the 2027 Ford Super Duty go on sale?
Ford has not published a single on-sale date in the pages reviewed. Its 2027 Super Duty pages are live, and Ford says the new Carhartt Package opened for orders on May 8 and is “available Fall 2026”. Ask a dealer for the production slot of the exact truck you configure.
How much does the 2027 Ford Super Duty cost?
The Ford 2027 Super Duty pages reviewed on October 7, 2026 did not show a starting MSRP, and no 2027 price list was found in Ford’s newsroom. CarPro reports that a Super Duty with the Carhartt package starts at $61,095 before destination. This page therefore does not quote a base price. Use Ford’s Build and Price tool for the cab, trim and engine you want.
What engines does the 2027 Super Duty offer?
Ford’s 2027 specs page lists a 7.3-liter gas V8 rated at 420 hp and 445 lb-ft and a 6.7-liter High Output Power Stroke turbo diesel V8 rated at 500 hp and up to 1,200 lb-ft. The 2026 page also listed a 6.8-liter V8 and a standard-output 6.7-liter diesel; the 2027 pages reviewed do not show them.
How much can the 2027 Super Duty tow and haul?
Ford lists up to 40,000 pounds of maximum available towing with the High-Capacity Gooseneck Tow Package and up to 7,900 pounds of maximum available payload with the gas engine. Work Truck, summarizing Ford’s 2027 specifications, lists up to 30,000 pounds conventional and 35,000 pounds fifth-wheel towing, so check the towing guide for your exact configuration.
What is the Super Duty Carhartt Package?
It is a new package for XLT Crew Cab single-rear-wheel 4×4 trucks that adds a dark grille, 20-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, off-road running boards, a Carhartt-branded spray-in bedliner and a duck-canvas-inspired interior. Ford says it is available in fall 2026 and can be combined with the XLT Premium and FX4 Off-Road packages.
Does the Super Duty have an EPA fuel economy rating?
No. FuelEconomy.gov has no Ford Super Duty entries for the 2026 or 2027 model years, so there is no EPA window-sticker mpg to compare. Compare payload, towing and engine ratings instead.

Figures labelled 2026 are the latest published numbers for that year and may not apply to the 2027 model. Ratings depend on equipment; confirm them for your exact truck. NextCarReview.com does not receive compensation from any automaker, dealer or retailer for editorial coverage.
