The 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD LTZ is the leather-lined, tech-heavy version of Chevy’s one-ton pickup. Chevrolet lists the 2025 Silverado 3500 HD from $48,695 and shows the LTZ trim from $62,600 (both before destination), with the available Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel rated at 470 hp and 975 lb-ft and a top trailer rating of 36,000 lbs in one specific configuration. For buyers who tow heavy fifth-wheel or gooseneck trailers and want comfort without High Country money, the LTZ is the trim to look at.
The 3500HD LTZ pairs a standard 6.6L gas V8 (401 hp) or the optional Duramax 6.6L diesel (470 hp, 975 lb-ft) with an Allison 10-speed automatic. A Crew Cab dually with the Duramax is rated for 31,000 to 31,440 lbs of gooseneck/fifth-wheel towing, depending on drive. Heavy-duty pickups are not EPA-rated for fuel economy. A note on the name: the original version of this page called it a “Troll Boss.” The real package is the Trail Boss, and Chevrolet’s own pages do not confirm it for the 3500HD (details below).
How We Evaluated the 2025 Silverado 3500HD LTZ
NextCarReview did not drive or tow with this truck. This guide is built from Chevrolet’s 2025 Silverado HD page on chevrolet.com, Chevrolet’s official 2025 Trailering Guide (PDF), Chevrolet’s newsroom release for the refreshed HD trucks, fueleconomy.gov, and NHTSA’s recall database. Every number below comes from those pages. Where Chevrolet’s own figures conflict or are missing, we say so instead of filling the gap.

2025 Silverado HD Trims and Prices
Chevrolet sells the 2025 Silverado HD as the 2500 HD and the 3500 HD, in Regular Cab, Double Cab and Crew Cab body styles, with dual rear wheels (DRW) offered only on the 3500 HD. The trim list is the same for both: WT, Custom, LT, LTZ, ZR2 and High Country. The trim prices below come from the trim cards on Chevrolet’s 2025 Silverado HD page. That page’s data labels them as the 2500 HD body style, so a 3500 HD will cost more.
| Trim | Chevrolet.com starting MSRP* | Highlights listed by Chevrolet |
|---|---|---|
| WT | $51,600 | 6.6L gas V8, Allison 10-speed, Trailering Package, automatic locking rear differential |
| Custom | $53,100 | 20-inch machined-aluminum wheels, heated power trailering mirrors, cloth seats |
| LT | $55,700 | 13.4-inch touchscreen, 12.3-inch driver display, EZ Lift power-lock tailgate, keyless open and start |
| LTZ | $62,600 | Trailering app, Hitch View camera, LED headlamps, power-folding/extending trailering mirrors, perforated leather, 10-way power front seats |
| ZR2 | $71,100 | Multimatic DSSV dampers, 35-inch mud-terrain tires, rear e-Locker, 1.5-inch lift |
| High Country | $72,900 | Power tailgate, Bed View and HD Surround Vision, premium leather and open-pore wood, heated rear seats |
*Chevrolet’s MSRP disclosure says the price excludes the destination freight charge, tax, title, license, dealer fees and options. The same page also gives other starting figures: a $45,300 headline price, and an FAQ that says the 2500 HD starts at $47,495 and the 3500 HD at $48,695. Chevrolet does not publish a separate 3500HD LTZ price on that page, so build the exact truck on chevrolet.com or ask a dealer for the window sticker.
Is there a 3500HD Trail Boss?
Chevrolet’s 2025 HD page introduces a “2025 Silverado HD Trail Boss” with Z71 shocks and suspension, skid plates, 20-inch black wheels with BFGoodrich All-Terrain tires, blacked-out trim and red recovery hooks, and says Trail Boss is available on LT and LTZ. It does not say whether that covers the 3500 HD, and Chevrolet’s 2025 Trailering Guide lists no Trail Boss ratings for the HD trucks. Several outlets report the package on both 2500 and 3500, but we could not confirm that from a Chevrolet source. If you want a 3500HD LTZ Trail Boss, ask the dealer to check the order guide for your cab, bed and wheel setup.

Engines, Towing and Payload
Both engines are 6.6 liters and are paired with an Allison 10-speed automatic. Chevrolet’s newsroom release for the refreshed HD said the 10-speed became standard with the gas engine for 2024, replacing a six-speed. The Duramax diesel is assembled in Moraine, Ohio, according to Chevrolet.
| Spec | 6.6L V8 gas | Duramax 6.6L turbo-diesel V8 |
|---|---|---|
| Horsepower | 401 hp | 470 hp |
| Torque | 464 lb-ft | 975 lb-ft |
| Transmission | Allison 10-speed automatic | Allison 10-speed automatic |
| Max trailering (any Silverado HD) | 19,080 lbs | 36,000 lbs |
| Configuration for that max | 3500 HD Regular Cab Long Bed WT 2WD, gooseneck hitch | 3500 HD Regular Cab Long Bed WT 2WD DRW, Max Trailering Package, gooseneck hitch |
| EPA fuel economy | Not rated (heavy-duty) | Not rated (heavy-duty) |
Those maximums come from base work-truck configurations, not a loaded LTZ. Chevrolet’s 2025 Trailering Guide gives the ratings that matter more for an LTZ buyer, who will most likely choose a Crew Cab. For the 3500 HD Crew Cab Long Bed dually, the guide lists:
| 3500 HD Crew Cab Long Bed DRW | GVWR | GCWR | Conventional | Gooseneck / 5th-wheel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2WD, 6.6L gas | 14,000 lbs | 26,000 lbs | 18,200 lbs | 18,230 lbs |
| 2WD, Duramax diesel | 14,000 lbs | 40,000 lbs | 20,000 lbs | 31,440 lbs |
| 4×4, 6.6L gas | 14,000 lbs | 26,000 lbs | 17,800 lbs | 17,800 lbs |
| 4×4, Duramax diesel | 14,000 lbs | 40,000 lbs | 20,000 lbs | 31,000 lbs |
Chevrolet lists a maximum available payload of 7,237 lbs for the Silverado HD line, and says every Silverado HD dually with the Duramax can pull more than 30,000 lbs. As with any truck, options, passengers and cargo reduce what your specific truck can carry and tow. Check the Trailering Information Label on the door jamb of the truck you are considering, which Chevrolet says lists that vehicle’s own ratings.
Why there is no EPA mpg rating
According to fueleconomy.gov, pickups, vans and SUVs with a gross vehicle weight rating over 8,500 lbs are classed as heavy-duty, fuel economy rules do not apply to them, and the EPA does not test them. Every 3500 HD sits well above that line (the Crew Cab dually has a 14,000-lb GVWR), so there is no official city/highway figure. Treat any mpg number you see for this truck as an estimate from a third party, not an EPA rating. Chevrolet lists fuel tanks of 28 to 36 gallons depending on configuration.

Interior, Bed and Technology
The LTZ uses the redesigned cabin Chevrolet introduced on the 2024 HD trucks for LT and above. It has a 13.4-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch configurable driver display, a center console with an available wireless charger, and available Google built-in compatibility. Chevrolet says the HD offers up to eight cameras with up to 14 views, including Hitch View, Transparent Trailer view (which, per Chevrolet’s release, now works with fifth-wheel and gooseneck trailers) and Bed View for lining up a hitch in the bed. Trailer Side Blind Zone Alert and Adaptive Cruise Control with trailering are also available.
The Durabed has 69.6 cubic feet of cargo volume with the standard bed and 83.5 cubic feet with the long bed, 12 standard tie-downs, BedSteps and a CornerStep rear bumper. Chevrolet’s release also notes that 18-inch polished-aluminum dually wheels with all-terrain tires are optional on the 3500HD LTZ. A 2025 3500 HD weighs 6,403 to 8,552 lbs unloaded and measures 235.5 to 266 inches long, depending on cab and bed.

Safety and Recalls
Every 2025 Silverado HD comes with Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator and IntelliBeam auto high beams, according to Chevrolet. Heavy-duty pickups are rarely crash-tested. When we checked NHTSA’s database, it had no 5-Star Safety Ratings for the 2025 Silverado 3500, and we found no IIHS rating for it either. See NHTSA.gov/ratings and IIHS.org/ratings for updates.
NHTSA lists one recall for the 2025 Silverado 3500 (campaign 26V129000). It covers certain gas-engine trucks with dual fuel tanks, where the rear pump may not move enough fuel to the front tank. Whatever engine you choose, run the VIN at NHTSA.gov/recalls before you buy.
Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Duramax rated at 470 hp and 975 lb-ft | No EPA fuel-economy rating for any HD truck |
| Crew Cab dually diesel rated for up to 31,440 lbs gooseneck | 36,000-lb maximum needs a Regular Cab WT dually |
| 13.4-inch screen and up to 14 camera views | Chevrolet does not publish a 3500HD LTZ price on its page |
| Leather, power-folding tow mirrors, Hitch View standard on LTZ | Trail Boss availability on 3500HD not confirmed by Chevrolet |
| Allison 10-speed with both engines | Big, heavy truck: up to 266 inches long |
Who Should Buy It and Which Version
- Fifth-wheel and gooseneck towers: a Crew Cab Long Bed dually LTZ with the Duramax is the setup to price out. Chevrolet’s guide rates it at 31,000 lbs (4×4) to 31,440 lbs (2WD).
- Bumper-pull towing under 18,000 lbs: the gas V8 is rated at 17,800 to 18,200 lbs conventional in Crew Cab dually form and skips the diesel option cost and diesel exhaust fluid.
- Buyers who want luxury but not High Country prices: the LTZ gets leather, power seats and the big screen. Chevrolet’s trim cards show it about $10,300 below High Country.
- Off-road use: look at the ZR2, which Chevrolet lists as a separate trim with DSSV dampers and 35-inch tires. Confirm Trail Boss availability on 3500HD with a dealer.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a 2025 Silverado 3500HD LTZ cost?
Chevrolet’s 2025 HD page lists the LTZ trim from $62,600 and the 3500 HD from $48,695, both before destination. The LTZ price on that page is tagged to the 2500 HD body style, and a 3500HD LTZ with the Duramax, a Crew Cab and dual rear wheels will cost more. Build the exact truck on chevrolet.com for a firm number.
How much can the 2025 Silverado 3500HD tow?
Up to 36,000 lbs, according to Chevrolet. That rating needs a Regular Cab Long Bed WT 2WD dually with the Duramax, Max Trailering Package and gooseneck hitch. A Crew Cab Long Bed dually with the Duramax is rated at 31,440 lbs (2WD) or 31,000 lbs (4×4) gooseneck/fifth-wheel, and 20,000 lbs conventional.
What mpg does the Silverado 3500HD get?
There is no EPA rating. Fueleconomy.gov explains that pickups over 8,500 lbs gross vehicle weight are heavy-duty vehicles that the EPA does not test. Any mpg figure you see is a third-party estimate.
Is there a 2025 Silverado 3500HD LTZ Trail Boss?
Chevrolet offers a Trail Boss package on 2025 Silverado HD LT and LTZ trims, but its pages do not say whether that includes the 3500 HD. We could not verify it from Chevrolet, so confirm availability for your configuration with a dealer before ordering. (The package is called “Trail Boss,” not “Troll Boss.”)
