Is the 2027 Silverado 1500 all-new? Yes, Chevrolet calls it the “Next-Generation 2027 Silverado 1500.” The GM release (first published June 16, 2026, updated Oct 2, 2026) confirms a new exterior, new 5.7L and 6.6L V8s, a 10-speed behind the enhanced 2.7L TurboMax, a 16.3-inch display and a seven-trim lineup. It is expected to go on sale at the end of 2026.

Price: the Work Truck starts at $41,395 including the destination freight charge. Not yet published: 2027 EPA mpg. GM’s release lists a base price for each of the seven trims, all including destination. See the 2027 New Cars guide for the rest of the lineup.

Chevrolet has officially introduced the next-generation 2027 Silverado 1500, which makes it one of the biggest truck stories of the model year. GM’s release names the engines, trims, display sizes and a base price for each of the seven trims, but leaves out EPA fuel economy. This page separates what GM has confirmed from what is still unpublished, and compares the numbers with the current 2026 truck.

Release date: GM says the 2027 Silverado 1500 is expected to go on sale at the end of 2026; it has not given a specific dealer date. Redesign: yes, Chevrolet calls it the Next-Generation 2027 Silverado 1500; the current generation launched for 2019 and was updated for 2022.

Is the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 a Redesign?

Yes. Chevrolet introduced it as the Next-Generation 2027 Silverado 1500. The current generation launched for the 2019 model year and was updated for 2022, so 2027 is a bigger step than a normal model-year change. GM’s release lists an all-new exterior with new LED lighting, new 5.7L and 6.6L V8 engines, an enhanced 2.7L TurboMax paired with a 10-speed automatic, a standard 16.3-inch center display and a new seven-trim lineup. The 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel carries over. GM first published the release on June 16, 2026 and updated it on October 2, 2026.

When Is the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Release Date?

GM says the next-generation 2027 Silverado 1500 is “expected to go on sale at the end of this year,” meaning late 2026, in a release originally dated June 16, 2026 and updated October 2, 2026 (GM newsroom). GM has not given a specific dealer-arrival date in that release, so treat the end of 2026 as the official window and nothing more precise.

GM’s September 17, 2026 Small Block V8 release repeats that the trucks arrive at dealerships “later this year.” For precedent, GM’s September 2021 release on the all-new 2022 Silverado ZR2 said that truck would go on sale in spring 2022.

The current 2026 Silverado 1500 remains on sale in the meantime. Our 2027 Sierra 1500 vs Silverado 1500 comparison covers the GMC twin.

What is new on the 2027 Silverado 1500?

  • Design: an all-new exterior with new LED headlights and taillights, and standard dual exhaust on Custom and above.
  • Engines: next-generation 5.7L and 6.6L V8s, an enhanced 2.7L TurboMax and the carryover 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel.
  • Transmission: the TurboMax is now paired with a 10-speed automatic.
  • Screens and software: a 16.3-inch center display and 12.2-inch driver information center are standard, with the new GM UI and Google built-in features.
  • Towing tech: boat ramp assist and what GM calls an industry-first Trailer Brake Gain Assistant, plus Super Cruise with trailering up to 13,600 lb.
  • Trims: a new seven-trim lineup of Work Truck, Custom, Silverado (formerly LT), Custom Trail Boss, Trail Boss, ZR2 and High Country.

Super Cruise is standard on High Country and ZR2 and available on Silverado and Trail Boss trims. A new interior camera with Cabin Glance is standard on High Country and ZR2 and available on every trim.

2027 Silverado 1500 Interior and Tech

Beyond the standard 16.3-inch center display and 12.2-inch driver information center, GM’s release says the new GM UI integrates Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with Google built-in features such as Google Gemini, Google Maps and apps through Google Play. ZR2 and High Country add a standard 11.5-inch front passenger screen, a head-up display and a rear camera mirror.

Camera count changes too. GM lists 11 available cameras, including Hitch View, the Rear Camera Mirror and underbody cameras, with 19 available camera views on the ZR2 and Trail Boss. The ZR2 gets new front- and rear-facing underbody cameras with a wash system, which GM calls a segment first, and underbody cameras are available on the Trail Boss.

GM’s release does not describe trailer-tow mirror availability for the 2027 Silverado 1500.

Cabins now differ more by trim. High Country gets a panoramic sunroof, a Silverado first, light and dark interior themes, real wood décor and Natural Tan-edged seatbelts. Trail Boss has two interior themes and Torch Red-edged seatbelts, while the ZR2 uses Torch Red accents, standard massaging front seats and forged carbon-fiber trim, which GM says is its first use of forged carbon.

What engines and towing does the 2027 Silverado offer?

EngineHorsepowerTorqueMax towingMax payload
Enhanced 2.7L TurboMax350455 lb-ft9,400 lb2,340 lb
Duramax 3.0L turbo-diesel305495 lb-ft12,000 lb1,870 lb
5.7L V8 (L76)402428 lb-ft13,700 lb2,170 lb
6.6L V8 (L78)481501 lb-ft9,700 lb1,510 lb

GM’s footnotes say each maximum applies only to a specific cab, bed and drive configuration, and the 13,700-lb tow rating needs a Double Cab Standard Bed 2WD with the Max Trailering Package and the 5.7L. The TurboMax gains 40 hp and 25 lb-ft over last year, according to GM’s Small Block release.

On GM’s numbers the 6.6L leads on horsepower at 481, the diesel leads on torque at 495 lb-ft among the non-V8 options and is the only engine GM cites for 900-plus miles of highway range, and the 5.7L leads on towing at 13,700 lb.

Fuel requirements differ by engine. GM’s 2027 Silverado 1500 owner’s manual, in an excerpt published by autoevolution on October 13, 2026, recommends 87-octane regular for the 2.7L TurboMax and 5.7L V8 and 91-octane premium for the 6.6L V8. If premium is unavailable, 87 may be used in the 6.6L, but GM says that may reduce performance and driveability. None of the gas engines may use E85 or gasoline with more than 15% ethanol, and the Duramax calls for ultra-low-sulfur diesel with less than 20% biodiesel, according to autoevolution’s summary of the manual.

GM says the first L76 5.7L and L78 6.6L engines are built at Flint Engine Operations in Michigan, with more capacity planned at Tonawanda, New York, and St. Catharines, Ontario. Both engines are also on a launch engine exchange program. GM dealer bulletin PIP6136, dated October 2026 and posted on NHTSA’s site, tells dealers that 2027 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 trucks with either V8 get a replacement engine assembly through GM’s Product Quality Center when a repair involves the block, internal parts or removing a cylinder head, while listed external parts such as sensors and the engine control module can be serviced on their own. The bulletin says the program helps GM’s product teams gather information for engineering improvements.

PIP6136 is a service bulletin, not a safety recall, so it has no recall campaign number, and NHTSA lists no recalls for the 2027 Silverado 1500 as of October 29, 2026. It is also separate from recall 25V274000, which covers certain 2021-2024 Silverado 1500 and other GM full-size models with the previous 6.2L V8 (L87) for possible connecting rod and crankshaft defects. Owners of those trucks can check a VIN with NHTSA and confirm the engine with our VIN decoder.

How much does the 2027 Silverado 1500 cost?

GM’s release lists a base price for each of the seven 2027 trims, and every figure includes the $2,795 destination freight charge. GM adds that “across the lineup there will be more value, more choice, and more standard content.”

2027 trimBase price (GM, including $2,795 destination)
Work Truck$41,395
Custom$46,395
Silverado (formerly LT)$50,695
Custom Trail Boss$57,195
Trail Boss$63,995
High Country$74,495
ZR2$79,995

Chevrolet.com lists the current 2026 Silverado Work Truck as starting at $37,200, and its FAQ gives a 2026 starting MSRP range of $37,200 to $71,800, depending on trim. Because the 2027 figures explicitly include the $2,795 destination charge (the Work Truck is $38,600 before it) and the 2026 listings may not, do not read the gap as a pure price increase until Chevrolet publishes both on the same basis. What is the fuel economy of the Silverado 1500?

EPA ratings for the 2027 Silverado 1500 have not been published (FuelEconomy.gov lists no 2027 Silverado). The current 2026 EPA figures are below and may not match the 2027 engines, which are new or revised.

2026 Silverado 1500City / highway / combined mpg
2.7L turbo, 2WD18 / 21 / 20
5.3L V8, 2WD16 / 20 / 17
3.0L diesel, 2WD23 / 28 / 25
3.0L diesel, 4WD22 / 25 / 23

Because the 5.7L and 6.6L replace the 5.3L and 6.2L, treat any 2026 V8 mpg figure as a guide only. NHTSA gave the 2025 Silverado 1500 crew cab 5 stars overall (4 frontal, 5 side, 4 rollover); 2027 ratings do not exist yet.

Should you buy a 2026 Silverado or wait for the 2027?

On the confirmed numbers, the 2027 is a larger step than a typical model-year update: more power in every gas engine, a new transmission pairing for the TurboMax, a higher tow rating and newer screens. If any of those matter, waiting until the end of 2026 is justified. If you want the 5.3L or 6.2L V8 specifically, those engines are replaced, so a 2026 is the only way to get them new.

Price is mostly known, since GM lists a base price for every trim, but EPA ratings are missing, so a buyer comparing running costs cannot do so yet. If you must buy before the end of the year, the 2026 truck remains a known quantity with published EPA numbers.
