The 2026 Chevy Tahoe is a carryover of the heavily refreshed 2025 model: same six trims, same three engines, same 17.7-inch touchscreen and the same 8,400 lb maximum tow rating. This guide sets out what each trim costs, which versions get the 3.0L Duramax diesel, what the EPA says about fuel economy, and how much each engine and drivetrain combination can tow. Prices were checked on October 20, 2026.
Quick answer: The 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe starts at $60,700 MSRP for the LS 2WD and tops out at $80,700 for the High Country, plus a $2,795 destination charge (Chevrolet.com, Oct. 20, 2026). It offers a 5.3L V8, a 6.2L V8 and a 3.0L Duramax diesel, which the EPA rates at 22-24 mpg combined. The highest tow rating is 8,400 lb, for a 5.3L 2WD with the Max Trailering Package.
A full-size three-row SUV that seats up to nine and tows 7,600-8,400 lb. The Duramax diesel beats the V8s by 5-7 mpg combined (EPA), and the 5.3L LS or LT is the value pick. For 2026 the trim lineup and engine outputs carry over from the 2025 refresh.
Figures cross-checked against Chevrolet, EPA, NHTSA and IIHS. This is desk research. NextCarReview did not test this vehicle. See our sourcing policy.

2026 Tahoe Trims and Prices
There are six retail trims: LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier and High Country. The table shows the starting MSRPs on Chevrolet’s 2026 Tahoe page on October 20, 2026. Chevrolet’s MSRP excludes the destination freight charge, tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment. Its destination page lists the 2026 Tahoe destination charge as $2,795, and the right-hand column adds it in.
| Trim | Starting MSRP | With $2,795 destination | Standard engine |
|---|---|---|---|
| LS | $60,700 | $63,495 | 5.3L V8 |
| LT | $63,700 | $66,495 | 5.3L V8 |

| High Country | $80,700 | $83,495 | 6.2L V8 |
Chevrolet’s FAQ ties the $60,700 base price to the LS 2WD. The trim cards do not state a drivetrain for the other starting prices, so check 2WD and 4WD pricing for a specific trim in Chevrolet’s configurator.

Chevrolet also lists an RST Performance Edition with a 433 hp, 467 lb-ft 6.2L, Chevrolet Performance intake and exhaust, and Brembo front brakes.

Engines, Duramax Diesel and EPA Fuel Economy
The 3.0L Duramax diesel is available for 2026. Chevrolet lists it as an option on the LT, RST, Z71, Premier and High Country. It is not offered on the base LS. All three engines use a 10-speed automatic.
| Engine | Output | Availability | Recommended fuel |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5.3L EcoTec3 V8 | 355 hp, 383 lb-ft | Standard on all trims except High Country | Regular 87 octane |
| 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 | 420 hp, 460 lb-ft | Standard on High Country; available on RST, Z71, Premier | Premium 91 octane |
| 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel I-6 | 305 hp, 495 lb-ft | Available on LT, RST, Z71, Premier, High Country | TOP TIER diesel |
The EPA ratings below come from FuelEconomy.gov’s 2026 Chevrolet Tahoe listings, in city/highway/combined mpg. The diesel’s combined rating is 7 mpg higher than either V8 in 2WD form. In 4WD form it is 5 mpg higher than the 5.3L and 6 mpg higher than the 6.2L. Chevrolet quotes an EPA-estimated maximum highway range of 624 miles per tank for the diesel.
| 2026 Tahoe (EPA) | 2WD city/hwy/comb | 4WD city/hwy/comb |
|---|---|---|
| 5.3L V8 | 15 / 20 / 17 mpg | 15 / 19 / 17 mpg |
| 6.2L V8 (premium fuel) | 15 / 20 / 17 mpg | 14 / 18 / 16 mpg |
| 3.0L Duramax diesel | 22 / 26 / 24 mpg | 20 / 24 / 22 mpg |
2026 Tahoe Towing Capacity by Configuration
The “8,400 lb” headline applies to one configuration only: the 5.3L V8 in 2WD with the Max Trailering Package. GM’s 2026 Chevrolet Trailering Guide lists every combination. All Tahoe ratings use a 3.23 rear axle ratio.
| Engine / package | GCWR | Tahoe 2WD | Tahoe 4WD |
|---|---|---|---|
| 5.3L V8 | 14,000 lb | 7,900 lb | 7,700 lb |
| 5.3L V8 + Max Trailering Package | 14,500 lb | 8,400 lb | 8,200 lb |
| 6.2L V8 | 14,000 lb | 7,700 lb | 7,600 lb |
| 6.2L V8 + Max Trailering Package | 14,500 lb | 8,200 lb | 8,100 lb |
| 3.0L Duramax diesel | 14,500 lb | 8,200 lb | 7,900 lb |
| 3.0L Duramax diesel + Max Trailering Package | 14,500 lb | 8,200 lb | 8,000 lb |
The same guide sets limits that matter in practice. Trailer tongue weight should be 10% to 15% of the loaded trailer weight, up to 1,250 lb. With a weight-carrying hitch, the limit is 5,000 lb with a 600 lb tongue weight. Tongue weights over 600 lb need a weight-distributing hitch and sway control. The diesel’s tow rating barely changes with the Max Trailering Package, so the package matters most on the V8s. For a body-on-frame rival with a different tow profile, see our Ford Expedition review.

What Changed for 2026 (and What the 2025 Refresh Brought)
For 2026, very little changed. The trim lineup, the engine outputs, the screen sizes and the maximum tow rating are all the same as in Chevrolet’s 2025 release. The big update came with the 2025 model year, which GM revealed on November 29, 2023 (GM updated the release with final content in August 2024). Since the 2026 Tahoe carries that update over, these are the features to know about:
- A new front fascia on all six trims, slimmer and bolder daytime running lights, and 24-inch wheels offered on the RST and High Country for the first time.
- A standard 17.7-inch-diagonal touchscreen paired with an 11-inch driver display, a redesigned console and a new steering wheel.
- A second-generation 3.0L Duramax rated at 305 hp and 495 lb-ft, up from 277 hp and 460 lb-ft, and offered on the Z71 for the first time.
- Air Ride Adaptive Suspension became available on the RST for the first time. It remains available on the Z71 and High Country.
- Real wood trim on the High Country, a first for the Tahoe.
For the 2025 model, GM said the diesel and Super Cruise would arrive “after initial launch.” Chevrolet’s 2026 page lists both as available, with Super Cruise able to work while towing. GM’s 2025 release offered the diesel on all retail trims; the 2026 page lists it for LT and above only. Trade outlet GM Authority reported in April 2026 that a limited-run, blacked-out LS Custom Edition, a dealer-installed package for the 2026 Tahoe and Suburban LS, was selling quickly. Chevrolet’s consumer site does not list it as a separate trim.
Is “Black Widow” a 2026 Tahoe Trim?
No. Chevrolet’s lineup for the 2026 Tahoe is LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier and High Country, with no Black Widow. Black Widow is a lifted-truck upfit brand sold by SCA Performance, and its website says the name is a trademark of Fox Factory. SCA’s FAQ says its builds are new vehicles, mostly shipped to SCA straight from the assembly line, and that every build goes through a new-vehicle dealer. It also says SCA’s parts carry their own 3-year/36,000-mile warranty and that the factory warranty is honored. SCA’s site lists the Silverado as its only Chevrolet build, and its Sport Utility page lists only Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator builds. So a Tahoe sold as a “Black Widow” is a dealer-arranged aftermarket package, not a Chevrolet model.
Safety Ratings and 2026 Recalls
IIHS: The 2026 Tahoe’s ratings are carried over from 2023-2024 test vehicles and apply to 2023-26 models. It earns Acceptable in the small overlap front test, Poor in the updated moderate overlap front test and Good in the updated side test. LATCH ease of use is rated Good.
NHTSA: NHTSA’s ratings API had no 2026 Tahoe crash ratings on October 20, 2026. The most recent ratings are for the 2025 model year, not 2026: the 2025 Tahoe earned 5 stars overall, 5 stars frontal, 5 stars side and 3 stars rollover, in both RWD and 4WD form.
Recalls: NHTSA lists three campaigns covering 2026 Tahoes. 26V289000 (May 2026) covers certain 4WD models with a transfer case that may be missing a component, which can lock the wheels. Owners are advised not to drive the vehicle until the free inspection or repair is done. 26V304000 (May 2026) covers models with 24-inch wheels that may have incorrect front hub bolts. The third, 26V114000, covers an electronic owner’s manual that may not download; dealers reset the radio. Check your VIN at nhtsa.gov/recalls.
2026 Tahoe Colors
Chevrolet’s 2026 Tahoe color tool, set to the Z71, shows six official exterior colors.
- Black
- Summit White (not available on Premier or High Country)
- Dark Ash Metallic
- Sterling Gray Metallic
- Cypress Gray (extra cost; RST and Z71 only)
- Radiant Red Tintcoat (extra cost)
Interior choices shown for the Z71 are Jet Black and Gideon/Very Dark Atmosphere. Cypress Gray and Lakeshore Blue Metallic were the two colors added with the 2025 refresh; Lakeshore Blue Metallic does not appear in the 2026 Z71 color tool.
Who Should Buy the 2026 Tahoe
The Tahoe suits buyers who need three usable rows and a tow rating of 7,600 to 8,400 lb, depending on configuration. On the numbers, an LT with the diesel is the strongest all-round choice: 22-24 mpg combined (EPA), against 16-17 for the V8s. The Z71 suits buyers who need low-range gearing and skid protection.
