Is There a 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser Pickup in the US?

No. Toyota’s 2026 US lineup has one Land Cruiser, and it is an SUV. Toyota’s US newsroom calls the current model the 250 series Land Cruiser and describes it as an SUV. Toyota.com lists it under SUVs with two grades, the 1958 and the Land Cruiser grade. Neither has a bed, and Toyota.com lists no cab-chassis or pickup version. Toyota.com now also shows the 2027 Land Cruiser, again as an SUV, with a starting MSRP of $58,180 in October 2026.

The US-Market Land Cruiser: SUV, Not a Pickup

The US Land Cruiser is built on the TNGA-F truck platform. Toyota says it shares that platform with the Tundra, Sequoia, Tacoma and 4Runner. That shared frame gives it truck-grade hardware: full-time four-wheel drive, a two-speed transfer case, and center and rear locking differentials. Above the frame, though, it is an enclosed SUV. For buyers who specifically need an open bed, Toyota’s answer in the US is the Tacoma or the Tundra, not the Land Cruiser.

The Land Cruiser 70 Series: The Pickup Version (Not Sold in the USA)

According to Toyota, the 70 Series launched in 1984 as a heavy-duty model mainly for commercial use and harsh environments. Its pickup versions are cab-chassis trucks: the frame and cab come from Toyota, and buyers fit a tray or body for their work. 4X4 Australia lists the Australian range as the Troop Carrier, the Wagon, the single-cab Cab-Chassis and the 79 Series dual-cab. “79 Series” is a name commonly used for the 70 Series pickups, including the double-cab. Toyota’s 2023 release shows the 70 Series at work in places such as Oman, Niger and Costa Rica. Toyota says the Land Cruiser family as a whole has sold about 11.3 million units in roughly 170 countries and regions, a figure that includes the Lexus LX and GX.

The 2.8-Liter Diesel

When Toyota re-introduced the Land Cruiser 70 in Japan on November 29, 2023, its release listed the 1GD-FTV 2.8-liter direct-injection turbo diesel with 150 kW (204 PS) and 500 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed automatic and a part-time four-wheel-drive system. Toyota also lists a ladder frame, electronic differential locks, VSC, Active Traction Control, Hill Start Assist Control and Downhill Assist Control. The Japan model is a five-seater, 4,890 mm long on a 2,730 mm wheelbase, built at Toyota Auto Body’s Yoshiwara Plant. The same release says Toyota Safety Sense on the 70 includes the drive-start control function.

In Australia, Toyota dealer listings for 2026 show the LandCruiser 70 Double-Cab Cab-Chassis with the 2.8L diesel in both manual and automatic form. The listed grades are WorkMate and GXL for the Double-Cab, and WorkMate, GX and GXL for the Single-Cab. The same dealer pages note extended wait times across 70 Series variants. Engines, transmissions and equipment differ from country to country, so check the local Toyota site in your market for exact specs.

Where It Is Sold

Toyota does not publish a single global availability list for the 70 Series. What the sources show: Toyota Australia sells the cab-chassis pickups and the wagon, and Toyota re-introduced the 70 in Japan in 2023. Toyota’s own release pictures the vehicle in use in the Middle East (Oman), Africa (Niger) and Central America (Costa Rica). Toyota describes the 70’s job as supporting “the lives and livelihoods of people” in harsh environments. That is a commercial and utility role, which is different from the US Land Cruiser’s role as a premium off-road family SUV.

Why the 70 Series Is Not Sold in the US

Toyota has not published a reason. The facts on record are these. First, a vehicle imported for US road use normally has to conform to the FMVSS and carry its original manufacturer’s certification label (49 CFR 591.5), and Toyota does not offer the 70 Series here. Second, Toyota already covers the US pickup market with the Tacoma and the Tundra, and the US Land Cruiser comes as an SUV only. Third, the 25-year exemption in 49 U.S.C. 30112 only helps with old vehicles, so a current 70 Series cannot come in that way. Any further reason, such as cost, emissions or demand, would be speculation, and we do not present it as fact.

For a US shopper the practical result is simple. You cannot order a 70 Series from a Toyota dealer, you cannot legally bring in a new one under the 25-year rule, and the registered-importer route only works for models NHTSA has already found eligible. The realistic choices are the Land Cruiser SUV, a Tacoma or a Tundra.

What US Buyers Can Buy Instead: Tacoma and Tundra

If you searched for a “Land Cruiser pickup” because you want a Toyota truck with real off-road hardware, the two US options are the midsize Tacoma and the full-size Tundra. Both are on Toyota.com for 2026 and both offer an i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain.

Land Cruiser vs Tacoma: For Pickup Shoppers

The Tacoma is the closest thing to a Land Cruiser pickup that a US dealer can sell you. Toyota rates the Tacoma’s available i-FORCE MAX at 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft, the same as the Land Cruiser, and both ride on TNGA-F. Toyota.com lists the Tacoma from $32,545 and the TRD Sport i-FORCE MAX from $47,335. Off-road grades such as the TRD Off-Road, Trailhunter and TRD Pro are also available. Land Cruiser vs Tundra: When You Need More Truck

If the attraction of the 70 Series is heavy work, the Tundra is the closer match in capability. Toyota.com lists the i-FORCE MAX twin-turbo V6 hybrid at 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft, the non-hybrid i-FORCE twin-turbo V6 at 389 horsepower and 479 lb-ft, and a maximum towing figure of 12,000 pounds. Land Cruiser Pickup Timeline: Key Dates

A short timeline helps separate the two Land Cruisers. Every date below comes from Toyota’s own US or global newsroom, or from Toyota.com.

In all that time, the pickup-cab Land Cruisers have belonged to the 70 Series and other non-US lines. The Land Cruiser made its US debut in 1958, but none of the Toyota sources cited on this page lists a factory Land Cruiser pickup for US buyers in the current lineup.

What Toyota Has Officially Said

We could only find official Toyota statements that describe the vehicles as they are now:

• Toyota USA (September 2025): the 2026 Land Cruiser is an SUV, the 250 series, with the i-FORCE MAX hybrid and full-time 4WD, built on TNGA-F.

Powertrain and Towing

Toyota’s US newsroom lists 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft from the i-FORCE MAX, which puts an electric motor between the turbocharged engine and the 8-speed automatic. Full-time four-wheel drive is standard. For 2026, the newsroom gives an EPA-estimated 23 mpg combined. Toyota.com, which now shows the carryover 2027 model, lists 22 mpg city, 25 mpg highway and 6,000 pounds of towing.

Off-Road Hardware

According to Toyota, every trim has center and rear locking differentials and CRAWL Control with five selectable speeds, plus Downhill Assist Control. Multi-Terrain Select works in both 4WD High and 4WD Low, with settings for mud, dirt and sand. The front Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism and the Multi-Terrain Monitor camera system are available.

Trims

Toyota sells two grades. The 1958 grade has round LED headlights and a heritage grille. The Land Cruiser grade has rectangular LED headlights, power heated and ventilated SofTex front seats, a Qi wireless charger and a larger touchscreen. Toyota’s release says the 1958 grade includes the two-speed transfer case, CRAWL Control, a 2,400W AC inverter and a trailer brake controller.
