This page covers the 2025 BRZ. For the latest model and the twin Toyota, see our 2026 Toyota GR86 vs Subaru BRZ review.

The 2025 Subaru BRZ is a rear-wheel-drive, 228-hp sports coupe sold in the US in three trims: Premium, Limited and the track-focused tS. Subaru lists it from $31,095 (Premium, manual) to $36,245 (tS), before the $1,170 destination charge. For 2025, the Premium trim became manual-only; the automatic is offered only on the Limited.
Best value: BRZ Premium ($31,095), the cheapest way into the car with the same engine and limited-slip differential. Best all-rounder: Limited ($33,745 manual / $34,595 automatic). For track days: tS ($36,245) with STI-tuned dampers and Brembo brakes.
How We Evaluated the 2025 BRZ
NextCarReview did not road-test the BRZ. This guide uses Subaru of America’s official 2025 BRZ pricing release and specifications, EPA data at FuelEconomy.gov, and safety listings at NHTSA.gov and IIHS.org. We compare the three trims on price, hardware and fuel economy, and set the BRZ against its main US rivals.
2025 Subaru BRZ Trims and US Prices
| Trim | Transmission | MSRP* | With destination | Key hardware |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Premium | 6-speed manual only | $31,095 | $32,265 | 17-in wheels, Torsen limited-slip differential, LED headlights |
| Limited | 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic | $33,745 / $34,595 | $34,915 / $35,765 | 18-in wheels, Michelin summer tires, blind-spot detection |
| tS | 6-speed manual only | $36,245 | $37,415 | STI-tuned Hitachi dampers, Brembo brakes |

Engine, Performance and Fuel Economy
Every 2025 BRZ uses a 2.4-liter flat-four boxer engine making 228 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque, sent to the rear wheels through a Torsen limited-slip differential. Weight sits around 2,800 pounds, which is why the BRZ is prized for balance more than straight-line speed. New for 2025, Sport mode is standard on manual coupes and Subaru updated the Active Sound Control.
| Transmission | EPA City | EPA Highway | EPA Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6-speed manual | 20 | 27 | 22 |
| 6-speed automatic (Limited) | 21 | 30 | 25 |
EPA estimates; confirm the current figures at FuelEconomy.gov. Premium fuel is recommended.
Interior and Practicality

The BRZ is a 2+2: the rear seats suit small children or bags, not adults. Folding the rear seatback opens a pass-through that Subaru says can carry four wheels and tires for a track day. Standard features include an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and models with the automatic add Subaru EyeSight driver assistance.

BRZ vs Toyota GR86 vs Mazda MX-5
The BRZ and Toyota GR86 share a platform and engine, so the choice comes down to suspension tuning, styling, warranty and dealer pricing. The Mazda MX-5 Miata is lighter and offers an open top but has less power (181 hp) and seats only two. See our GR86 vs BRZ review and MX-5 Miata review, or browse the best sports cars of 2026.
Pros and Cons
| Pros | Cons |
|---|---|
| Rear-wheel drive with a limited-slip differential on every trim | Rear seats are for kids or cargo only |
| Manual available on all trims | No automatic on Premium or tS for 2025 |
| tS adds STI dampers and Brembo brakes | 22 mpg combined with the manual |
| Folding rear seat holds a set of track tires | Road noise is higher than in commuter cars |
