Review of 2018 Honda Accord Sport: Performance and Efficiency

About the 2018 Honda Accord Sport

Hello and welcome to my new blog. I am reviewing the Honda Accord 2018 Sport model today. This trim has a manual transmission and features a 1.5-litre turbo engine. You can also opt for the Sport trim with a 2.0T motor, which has more power, and you can get that with a manual. The Sport trim is the only one with a manual transmission.

Exterior Design

The 2018 Honda Accord Sport trim has large 19-inch wheels, and I love the front end of these new Accords. They have standard LED headlamps that look cool and futuristic. The design is beautiful, with a lovely flowing shape. This Accord is more extended than previous models, offering plenty of space. Out back, it’s also gorgeous, although I think the front looks even better. The overall design is attractive without being over the top, and I think it will age well.

Inside, the Honda Accord 2018 Sport is a charming place. Although the Sport model is the second-lowest trim, it still has a lot of great equipment that makes it feel far from basic.

Seats and Comfort

The seats combine cloth and leather with smooth, silky fabric that feels expensive and is very grippy. These seats hold you in well and have good bolstering. They’re not sports car-like but sportier than many other midsize family sedans. They were very comfortable during my six-and-a-half-hour road trip—no complaints!

Steering Wheel

The steering wheel in the 2018 Honda Accord Sport is excellent, with a perfect 9-and-3 grip, 10 and 2 notches, and a suitable thickness. It’s a bit thicker than you might expect, giving it a sporty feel. The wheel has buttons for driver assistance features and cruise control on the left, and you can control the digital gauge display with a little scroll wheel.

Steering and Gauges

The steering wheel has excellent resistance to it and feels heavy and expensive—great to use. The Honda Accord 2018 Sport features excellent partially digital gauges. The only analogue part is the speedometer; everything else is digital. The digital display does a great job blending in with the analogue look. You can scroll through the left portion to access trip details, album art, and more information.

Sport Mode

Interestingly, even though this is the Sport trim, this version has no sport mode. Last year, I drove the 2.0T Touring 2018 Honda Accord Sport, which had a sport mode and a boost gauge. Unfortunately, the Sport trim lacks the boost gauge, but that’s not a huge deal.

Infotainment System

Right up top, the Honda Link infotainment system is excellent. It’s eight inches in size for the Sport trim and includes volume and tuning knobs with a nice, high-quality feel. I love the physical buttons above the screen—they’re easier to find while driving and less distracting than capacitive touch buttons. The screen setup is user-friendly, allowing you to go straight to FM audio, Bluetooth, and more. You can customise and arrange these features to suit your everyday use.

Customisable Infotainment

It’s nice that you can customise the infotainment system, making it more efficient once you get used to it. The system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which are excellent features. However, the Sport trim with the 1.5T motor doesn’t come with satellite radio integration. You’ll need to go to the EX or higher trims for that. Despite that, it’s still a great infotainment system.

Audio System

During my six-and-a-half-hour road trip, I tested the stereo system extensively. It sounds pretty good for a standard stereo system in a $27,000 car. It’s not the most fantastic system, but it’s perfect for this vehicle class without any upgrades.

Climate Control

The climate control system is user-friendly, with three knobs. I love the little backlighting that changes from blue to red depending on whether you’re turning the temperature up or down. It’s a cool touch that makes the system feel high-quality and futuristic.

Convenience Features

There are a few buttons for Econ Mode, Brake Hold, and the Parking Brake. The simplicity of the centre stack, with just a handful of buttons, is refreshing and makes for a user-friendly and good-looking space.

Storage Space

The 2018 Honda Accord Sport offers excellent storage space. The doors have pockets with bottle holders and another large pocket. In the centre, there’s a deep cubby that, in higher trims, includes a wireless charging pad (this trim doesn’t have it). There’s also a fast-charging USB port, an audio input, and a power outlet, all very handy. There are also two deep cupholders.

Practical Storage Solutions

The cupholders are tall enough to fit tall bottles without hindering your shifting. When we used standard takeout cups, the cupholders were so far down that they didn’t interfere with the shifter. This thoughtful design is charming.

Center Armrest

The centre armrest is a bit padded, though not the softest. I didn’t feel uncomfortable resting my elbow there on my long road trip. Opening it up, there’s a removable coin tray at the top and a much larger area for storing various items below that. There’s also another power outlet in there. Overall, there’s a perfect amount of space.

Additional Storage

There’s also a sunglasses holder on the roof, providing a handy place to store them.

Backseat Space

The Honda Accord 2018 Sport Sport’s backseat space is astounding. It’s a longer car, so you benefit from a spacious backseat. At 5’9″, sitting behind myself, I quickly had nine inches of legroom to spare. There’s plenty of headroom as well. Even taller passengers can fit comfortably both in the front and back.

Comfort Features

In the 2018 Honda Accord Sport trim, you don’t get rear air vents or hookups, but you do have bottle holders in the doors and a fold-down centre armrest with two cupholders. The backseat is very comfortable and has tons of space. It might be best-in-class, beating out the Passat, previously the largest backseat in this segment.

Trunk Space

The Honda Accord 2018 Sport trunk space is equally impressive. It has a wide opening that goes far back and is pretty deep. Beneath the floor, you’ll find an actual spare tyre, which is nice since many cars are starting to remove that feature.

Practicality and Storage

It’s great that the 2018 Honda Accord Sport still includes a spare tire, something many cars are dropping. You also have a large trunk, and the rear seats fold flat if you need more space, allowing you to pass items through into the interior.

Starting and Setting Off

Before you even start the car, there’s a pleasant sound when you enter, instantly putting you in a good mood. The car has keyless entry and push-button start, so you just keep the key in your pocket, hit the start button, and it fires right up.

Driving the Accord Sport

When you set off in the 2018 Honda Accord Sport, you’ll first notice how easy it is to use the manual transmission. The clutch is light and predictable, making it an excellent car for learning to drive a stick. Honda manuals are some of the easiest to use, and this one is no exception. The shifter is sharp with light and short throws, making it easy and fun to shift gears.

Visibility and Steering

The Honda Accord 2018 Sport visibility is excellent, with a large windshield and big side windows. The view out of the back is also great. The steering is light, making it easy to use, and everything feels fine-tuned to your input. You might need to be more delicate with your inputs because everything is on the lighter side, but this adds to the precise feel of the car.

Performance

Let’s hit the back road and see how it performs. This thing picks up quickly and goes! Even though it has a smaller engine, it’s still correctly fast. The 0-60 time is 7.2 seconds with 192 horsepower and 192 pound-feet of torque from the 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It also has VTEC, which is fantastic. You might feel a bit of turbo lag before the turbo fully spools, but it pulls well for a 1.5-litre engine. It feels quicker than the 7.2-second 0-60 time suggests. It can still spin the front wheels, making driving a blast.
